Batteries Plus Bulbs is looking to hire a Category Manager to manage and our rapidly growing Repair and Service line of business. Our Category Managers work in a fast-paced enviroment using consumer and market knowledge to develop and execute short and long term category strategies to drive franchisee sales and achieve Ascent financial objects.

 
Category Management
• Develop knowledge of Battery Plus Bulbs's target consumer in order to understand the desired consumer experience. Act as the voice of the consumer, and use knowledge and data to anticipate consumer behavior to better develop product and category strategies
• Initiate product category strategies that attain budgetary goals aligned with corporate objectives for each assigned product category (for both System and Ascent). Assist in development and management of category roadmap that outlines the strategic and financial objectives of projects needed to support the category strategy
• Assist with negotiating and implementing new programs with domestic vendors for assigned categories
• Assist in the development and implementation of the annual marketing promotional calendar. Analyze and report promotion results.
• Communicate price changes, new items, and other category information to appropriate internal and external personnel using Flash, Product Memos, I-Site postings, etc
Analysis
• Work to review market information (applications and trends) for assigned categories and determine success factors for top items
• Assist with analysis of retail/commercial competitive pricing calculating store level margin and competitiveness against defined competitors
• Identify and report on top sellers and underperformers within each assigned categories. Work with Sr. Category Manager to determine reasons for underperformance and potential strategies to leverage/increase sales and/or discontinue


New Product Development
• Provide recommendations and defend case for new products and categories.
• Develop key sourcing list for product line extensions, working with Product Management team to ensure timely arrival, accurate costing and successful product introduction.
• For new product families, manage the new product development process from start through initial shipments to stores:
• Work with Sr. Category Manger to develop product specifications, benchmarks, pricing, etc.
• Work with Sourcing team to monitor/implement New Product/Sourcing Timeline
• Ensure new items and updates are accurately entered into the Item Maintenance form
• Assist marketing team with packaging attributes
• Assist with development sales/store support materials needed to drive new programs
Store Assortment/Merchandising
• Analyze and provide direction on store assortment for responsible categories on a monthly basis.
• Implement and layout updated planograms to correspond with store assortment changes per a detailed schedule, communicating properly to team and field.
• Assist marketing to develop and implement key signage programs related to responsible categories that will drive in store conversation and corresponding sales.


Qualifications
• Equivalent to 4 years of college education or specialized training program with emphasis in Marketing, Business Administration or related field preferred
• Minimum 5-7 years product/market management experience. Demonstrated knowledge of multi-level distribution networks preferred. Previous retail experience preferred
• Working knowledge of MS Office and/or other similar databases or software with an ability to adapt learning to incorporate new technology
• Highly analytical; ability to assess situations using statistical and qualitative analysis and make recommendations and/or decisions to meet business needs specifically with market data, exceptions, trends, financial
• Ability to communicate concrete and abstract ideas effectively using both oral and written means. Proven ability to make presentations to senior management, groups of employees, or customers
• Ability to independently and collaboratively handle multiple projects/tasks at one time. Able to plan, take ownership of a project and establish priorities to meet deadlines in a fast paced, changing environment with good control and results.
• Demonstrated problem solving skills. Duties require considerable judgment to work independently to achieve results, or to devise new or modify and adapt existing methods, processes, procedures or standards to meet new or unusual requirements.
• Ability to work under the direction where specific duties and outcomes are established, plans and arranges significant portion of own work, referring only unusual situations to supervisor or others.
• Strong presentation and customer service focus. Ability to communicate concrete and abstract ideas effectively using both oral and written means. Proven ability to make presentations to senior management, groups of employees, or customers that may involve persuasion, and obtaining approvals.
• Ability to work with confidential data of major importance such as process, service and product costs which, if disclosed to outside contacts, might have significant external effect and/or be detrimental to the organizations interests.
